Multitarget bioactive polyphenols as modulators of cytosolic calcium

The project is focused on the mechanism of internal calcium regulation in tumor cells and the role of Ca channels. In malignant mesothelioma, breast cancer and prostate cancer cells, plant derived polyphenols induce an increase of internal calcium through release from intracellular stores and influx through different Ca channels. The project aims to characterize the mechanism of action of these modulators, which could be useful, as adjuvant or synergistic elements, in the treatment of the disease.
