Biophysics of intracellular CLC chloride / proton exchangers

Five of the nine human CLC proteins are chloride / proton exchangers expressed in the membrane of endosomes. My group has made important contributions regarding this class of proteins and is continuing to study them with a variety of techniques. Particular achievements regard the discovery that ClC-5 and ClC-4 are secondary active Cl- / H+ antiporters with a 2:1 stoichiometry. We are currently continuing on ClC-7 and ClC-3/ClC-4.
