Tematiche di ricercaLe tematiche della commessa comprendono l'analisi della relazione tra struttura e funzione di canali/recettori postsinaptici glutamatergici e di canali e trasportatori del tipo CFTR e CLC. Per i canali/recettori glutamatergici viene inoltre studiata l'interazione con metalli pesanti la cui tossicita’ si esplica mediante un’interazione diretta del metallo con la proteina canale con conseguente alterazione delle caratteristiche funzionali. Per quanto riguarda i canali CLC ci si propone di approfondire i meccanismi molecolari del funzionamento, in considerazione soprattutto delle importanti funzioni fisiologiche svolte e del loro coinvolgimento in almeno cinque patologie genetiche diverse. Per le proteine CFTR e CLC vengono sviluppati e studiati nuovi strumenti farmacologici di interesse per il trattamento delle malattie genetiche, in particolare per la fibrosi cistica, che e’ la malattia genetica letale piu’ frequente. Sono sempre in sviluppo nuove tecnologie e metodi.
