| Tematiche di ricerca | Le tematiche della commessa comprendono lo studio di diversi tipi di aggregazione biomolecolare che avvengono su una scala di lunghezze intermedia tra quella macro e quella microscopica. Diverse forme di aggregazione di biomolecole portano ad una significativa varieta’ di strutture sopramolecolari piu’ o meno ordinate: associazione di proteine, formazione di fibrille polipeptidiche, gelificazione (jamming) di biopolimeri, cristallizzazione di proteine. Vengono studiati gli effetti di diversi fattori capaci di controllare l’aggregazione, quali i cambiamenti di conformazione molecolare, le proprieta’ del solvente, la presenza di ioni in soluzione. L’interesse di tali studi risiede nel fatto che i processi di aggregazione biomolecolare interessano campi diversi della scienza che vanno dalla food technology (nuovi additivi per controllare la consistenza dei cibi) alla industria farmaceutica (biopolimeri adatti al trasporto mirato di farmaci), dalla microelettronica (DNA chip e nuovi materiali biopolimerici adatti alla costruzione di memorie ottiche) alla medicina (processi di aggregazione di proteine con effetti tossici come nel caso di alcune malattie neurodegenerative: Alzheimer, BSE, ecc.). |
